Unbelievable! Bruce Lee playing ping pong with nunchucks.

Who are you?

Polonius:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!

Laertes:
Most humbly do I take my leave, my lord.

Hamlet Act 1, scene 3, 78–82
I was blessed with parents who encouraged us kids to march to the beat of our own drummers.  To be ourselves.  To be true to ourselves.  Thankfully, being so closed to my Bro and Sis, it made it much easier to do so.    The fact that we had each other helped push against the adolescent pressures to be fake to fit in.  I was a reserved child who did not make friends as easily as they did.  That didn't bother me as I almost always had their companionship when I needed it.  I seems to make friends with others who were, like us, unique individualists.  I'm not saying that we were not influenced by the high school pop culture, just that we could remain true to ourselves and did not need be fake.  We Humans are constantly evolving on some level and should often take time to examine our inner selves.  One of my favorite quotes is from Socrates, "An unexamined life is not worth living"  So do this: Take some time every day and examine life and examine your inner life.  Take an issue that you feel strongly about and get to the root of why you feel as you to.  Go to a mirror and look at yourself, stare into your eyes and see beyond the base, physical manifestation before you and you may catch a glimpse of  your soul.

Be like water...

Amazing stuff water.  A simple, humble molecule really, and yet the most important molecule a body needs.  Not counting O2 of course.  The property of water I want to touch upon today is how it finds its own level.  It wants to be calm, tranquil, at rest.  Accepting.

Stuart Wilde writes in his book Infinite Self:
"When you stop fighting yourself--when you can accept that the way it is, is the way it is, you're free.  Say that to yourself three or four times a day.  "The way it is, is the way that it is.  I accept that." You see, you don't need perfection, just progress.  Everything can be gradually changed for the better.  Meanwhile, it is the way it is. Once you can come out of acceptance, you're free, completely free, because you're no longer in the emotion, fighting with yourself.
Reminds me of the Serenity Prayer.

The Full Original Copy of the Serenity Prayer
by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)

God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.
Acceptance.  Like water, you do not have to be changed by the storms that may toss you around.  Your true essence remains unchanged.

Last Day of Work

The only constant is change...

Weird.  Felt like the last day of school.  About half of the agency was laid off today and were told that we would be hired back soon after a Cali budget is passed.  Who knows when that will be.  I don't think it will happen any sooner than 10 weeks.  So we all hugged and said our goodbyes knowing in the back of our minds that the agency will be different when we return.  You were a great bunch of folks to work with.  The BEST really.   I mean that.

FLA Meeting

Went to the Fresno Longboarder Meeting.  It's a surf club that I am in.  Great bunch of guys.   We eat pizza, talk story, share photos and plan club events.  We have our annual camping trip at Trestles coming up.  I dropped of the newsletter I put together.  I've committed to putting it together monthly now.  Gonna let the other members copy and distribute it.  My pal Matt Prine is going to do some art for the next one. Check out his stuff.  This guy is super talented.  Check out this site while you are at it. To meditate/relax, this site makes it easy.
