Stuart Wilde writes in his book Infinite Self:
"When you stop fighting yourself--when you can accept that the way it is, is the way it is, you're free. Say that to yourself three or four times a day. "The way it is, is the way that it is. I accept that." You see, you don't need perfection, just progress. Everything can be gradually changed for the better. Meanwhile, it is the way it is. Once you can come out of acceptance, you're free, completely free, because you're no longer in the emotion, fighting with yourself.Reminds me of the Serenity Prayer.
Acceptance. Like water, you do not have to be changed by the storms that may toss you around. Your true essence remains unchanged. The Full Original Copy of the Serenity Prayer
by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.Amen.
