I was blessed with parents who encouraged us kids to march to the beat of our own drummers. To be ourselves. To be true to ourselves. Thankfully, being so closed to my Bro and Sis, it made it much easier to do so. The fact that we had each other helped push against the adolescent pressures to be fake to fit in. I was a reserved child who did not make friends as easily as they did. That didn't bother me as I almost always had their companionship when I needed it. I seems to make friends with others who were, like us, unique individualists. I'm not saying that we were not influenced by the high school pop culture, just that we could remain true to ourselves and did not need be fake. We Humans are constantly evolving on some level and should often take time to examine our inner selves. One of my favorite quotes is from Socrates, "An unexamined life is not worth living" So do this: Take some time every day and examine life and examine your inner life. Take an issue that you feel strongly about and get to the root of why you feel as you to. Go to a mirror and look at yourself, stare into your eyes and see beyond the base, physical manifestation before you and you may catch a glimpse of your soul.Polonius:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!
Laertes:
Most humbly do I take my leave, my lord.
